Solidworks: Let’s Know More About 3D Printing

The creation of a three-dimensional solid objects from a digital file is called 3D printing or additive manufacturing. A 3D printed object can be achieved with the use of additive process. The printed object is created through laying down of successive layers of printing material in an additive process until the object is created. The individual layers can be observed as a thinly horizontal cross-section of the final output 3D printed object. 3D printing begins by making a virtual design of the object you want to make. CAD or computer aided design file is a type of virtual design that is created using 3D scanner or 3D modeling application. A 3D digital copy of an object can be made using a 3D digital scanner. 3D scanners are using various technologies in generating a 3D model.

With the demand of 3D printing, in the near future 3D scanning can be performed using a smartphone, and today large companies have enabled hardware in performing 3D scanning. There are various forms of 3D modeling software. A year’s license of industrial grade 3D modeling software may cost thousands, but there are also  free open sources software. When you’re a newbie, it is a bit overwhelming with a number of choices available. You can start with a free version that works and supports major browsers. They usually offer free versions that offer beginner lessons, and some with a built in option so your object can be printed using different 3D printing services. Once you are done with your 3D model, the next step is preparation of the model to make it 3D printable. Learn about solidworks training here!

Slicing is preparing a 3D model before it can be printed in 3D. With the use of modeling software, slicing involves the division of a 3D model into hundreds and thousands of horizontal layers. Within a 3D modeling software application, a 3D model can be sliced and possibly use a slicing tool for some types of 3D printer. Once the 3D model is sliced, you can feed it to your 3D printer, with the use of SD, USB or wifi. It highly depends on the 3D printer you have. Once the file is uploaded in your 3D printer, the 3D  object is ready to be printed layer by layer. In order to create a three-dimensional object, every slice of the object must be read using camworks 3D printer.

It is important for you to identify the things you want to learn first if you are planning to venture into a 3D printing business. Are you interested creating a design, focusing on creating objects or in 3D hardware? If you want to learn 3D printing but you have a tight budget, there are affordable 3D printing kits you can start with. There are different ways to do 3D printing and not all 3D printers utilize the same technology. To gain more knowledge about 3D printing, go to
